What is Startup Weekend Tauranga?
Startup Weekend Tauranga is your chance to meet, form a team, develop an idea into a business, and showcase your team's startup concept to a panel of judges (all of this in just 54 hours).
Based on a tried and tested global event format, the weekend is centred around action, innovation, and growth.
Am I even the ‘right’ person for this event?
It doesn’t matter what you do or where you’re from, we are looking for;
- aspiring and experienced entrepreneurs
- developers and other tech-related professionals
- designers of all types
- non-technical talent (i.e. business, sales, finance, legal etc.)
- community leader and non-for-profit employees
- students from universities and senior high schools

Where am I participating in this event?
We’re excited to be hosted by our sponsor Basestation, an innovative coworking space in the centre of Tauranga CBD. This will be our sixth time at this venue so we know it’s the perfect venue for Startup Weekend Tauranga.
When am I participating in this event?
Over the weekend of Friday 14th May to Sunday 16th May - 54 hours of growth, fun, connection and innovation.
What does the weekend look like?
Things kick off on Friday night (5:30pm) with dinner and pitches. The event then continues through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, culminating in Sunday night presentations to a panel of judges and the winners are announced (around 8pm ish).
Why is this year’s theme Wellbeing?
Startup Weekend Tauranga | Wellbeing gives you the opportunity to focus on building solutions and creating opportunities to enhance, improve and strengthen the social, environmental, economic wellbeing of our community.
Whether it be encouraging environmental responsibility, equal opportunity, civic engagement, or better access to housing, healthcare or education, you are encouraged to follow your gut.
You have full idea freedom! The weekend is your space to bring your ideas to improve your local community (or global ones) and embrace this chance to be the change you wish to see in the world.
